The statistics monitor the current and capital budgets of the regions and how they are financed. The budgets are subdivided into several purposes (accounts) and by type of transaction. The budgets make it possible to see e.g. the expected expenses of the regions for hospitals.
Statistics Denmark has since 1990 electronically received and stored data on the municipality and region (formerly county) budgets.
The municipality and region structure reform in 2007 meant that their areas of responsibility and the municipality and county budget- and account system changed, the counties were replaced by the regions, and that it can thus be hard to compare 2006 with 2007.
