Get an overview of the purpose, content and quality of the statistics. Here you can find information on the sources that the statistics are derived from, what the statistics contains and how often it is published.
The basis of the statistics is one-year births and shows the names given to newborn children. From 1993 onwards, top-50 lists of the most popular names are available. From 1985-1992, only top-25 lists are available.
The statistical data source is the Central Population Register (CPR).
For children born before 1996, only Danish citizens are included in the statistics.
The statistics will always be subject to a delay of about 6 months, as parents do not have to report the name selected to the Central Population Register until after a period of 6 months.
Names that can be spelt in several ways (e.g. Anni and Annie) are put together and shown on the top-50 list with the most commonly used spelling.
The statistics are published in the middle of January and July.
