Number of deaths, missing persons and directly affected persons attributed to disasters per 100,000 population, Definition, Disaster means serious disruption of the functioning of a community or society involving widespread human, material, economic or environmental losses and impacts that exceed the affected community or society’s ability to cope with the disaster without outside assistance.
