Labour market status of the population
Labour market status shows the population’s affiliation with the labour market. The population is divided at an overall level into three main groups: employed persons, unemployed persons and persons outside the labour force. The three main groups can be broken down further. The labour market status of the population is used e.g. for calculating employment rates and labour force participation.
The labour market status of the population is compiled in the quarterly interview-based Labour Force Survey (LFS), in the annual register-based labour force statistics (RAS and QLFS) and in the Labour Market Accounts (LMA).
The LFS is a questionnaire survey and follows the international guidelines for measuring the population’s labour market status. The LFS should primarily be used in connection with international comparisons. Overall, the LFS has been prepared in the same way since the first quarter of 1995.
RAS statistics are based on register information, and they show the population’s labour market affiliation by the end of November each year. RAS has a long time series starting in November 1980. There are a few data breaks in the time series. To the maximum extent possible, RAS follows the international guidelines for measuring the population’s labour market status. In addition to the RAS statistics at the end of November, average labour market status for the population is also prepared for the year and the four quarters in the QLFS statistics.
The LMA is based on register information, and they show the population’s labour market status in full-time equivalent. In the LMA, persons in the Danish population always have an affiliation with the labour market equivalent of 37 hours per week. Based on the LMA, an annual NEET indicator is calculated, which shows the number of young people who are not in employment, education nor training.
Statistics of employee organisations’ member figures are compiled annually based on figures submitted by the employee organisations.
