Target 14.5: Conserve coastal and marine areas
By 2020, conserve at least 10 per cent of coastal and marine areas, consistent with national and international law and based on the best available scientific information.

Coverage of protected areas in relation to marine areas
Definition
The indicator shows the average proportion of marine key biodiversity areas (KBAs), i.e. areas that contribute significantly to the global maintenance of biodiversity, that are covered by protected areas or areas with other conservation measures (OECMs).
The UN website on global SDG data shows that on average 86 per cent of marine key biodiversity areas are covered by protected areas in Denmark in 2024.
