Sub-indicator a, coastal eutrophication: The indicator is based on the UN definition, which contains several possible proxy indicators. The source is a scientific report from DCE, Aarhus University: Hansen J.W. & Høgslund S. (red.) 2019. Marine områder 2018. NOVANA. Aarhus Universitet, DCE - Nationalt Center for Miljø og Energi, 156 s. - Videnskabelig rapport fra DCE nr. 355. Sub-indicator b, density of floating plastic debris: The amount and composition of beach litter was monitored with three collections, spring, summer and fall, respectively on 6 Danish reference beaches. Plastic waste consitute the majority of litter (38-90 per cent, on average 80 per cent). The most frequent types of plastic waste were unidentifyable plastic fragments, but single use plastics, including candy wrappers, food and beverage packaging, string and cord from fishing activity, shotgun cartridges and cotton bud sticks were also among the waste objects frequently found on the beaches.
