Definition
This indicator shows the proportion of local breeds classified as being at risk of extinction.
Local breeds are livestock breeds (e.g. cattle, horses, sheep, goats, pigs, poultry, etc.) that are characteristic of a single nation and are found only there. This means that the breed does not naturally occur in more than one country and is not part of a transboundary (cross-border) breed. Source: Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Fisheries.
According to the UN definition, the indicator should also present data on transboundary breeds; however, this is currently not possible.
