The tendency survey is based on the manufacturing industry’s monthly assessment of the trend of the past three months and expectations for the next three months. It is developments in production, employment and sales prices as well as order books and stocks of finished products. Each quarter, they answer further questions about the competitive situation, order intake, stocks of raw materials, production capacity and restrictions on production.

State of affairs in manufacturing as assessed by the enterprises

The compound economic indicator is an average of three selected indicators with respect to production expectations, order books and stocks of finished goods. The values are net figures reflecting the shares in per cent who respond increasing/too big/more than adequate minus the share who respond declining/too small/less than adequate.

Factors limiting the enterprise

Each quarter, the enterprises respond to whether they are experiencing any restrictions on their production. For example, they may not be able to produce at full capacity, because they are short-staffed.
