Torben Tranæs will discuss the issue of compatibility between the data requirements for applied as well as for academic research and the data available from the national statistics agencies in the Nordic countries. One of the central questions to be considered is this: Given the standards that are required if empirical research is to be considered for publication in international journals, what are the implications for data quality and availability, and how successful are we in terms of meeting these requirements? Particular focus will be placed on the key role played by Statistics Denmark in facilitating advanced empirical research as well as more applied descriptive inquiries.
