0.4 Purpose and History
The purpose of the statistics is to supply information on holiday houses rented through Danish agencies.

The statistics have been compiled since 1986.

From 1986 to 1989 the statistics covered only the main season, but from 1990 to 1994 the coverage was a full (split) year.

From the 4th quarter of 1994, quarterly surveys were carried out and from 1998 the annual statistics covers the calendar year.

Users:
The main users are the EU Commission, Danish ministries, business organisations and private enterprises.

Used for:
The statistics are mostly used for monitoring the market and deciding tourism policies.

1.1 Description of Contents
The purpose of the statistics is to provide information on holiday houses for rental, rented houses and the number of tourist nights spent in this type of accomodation.

The most important variables are: Houses available, rented houses, rental contracts made and nights stayed per group of nationality.

1.2 Statistical Concepts
Population
The statistics cover Danish agencies having at least 25 houses available for rental.


2 Time


2.1 Reference Period
The Statistics are compiled quarterly and annually.

2.2 Date of Publication
The statistics are published quarterly and annually.

Quarterly statistics are published about 45 days after the end of the reference month in News from Statistics Denmark and in Statistical News, in the Service Sector series.

Annual statistics are published about 75 days after the end of the reference year in Statistical News, in the Service Sector series.

2.3 Punctuality
The statistics are published according to schedule.

2.4 Frequency
Quarterly and annually.


3 Accuracy


3.1 Overall accuracy
The annual statistics are based on an exhaustive census.

The quarterly statistics are based on reports from the biggest agencies covering about 80 per cent of the market.

4.1 Comparability over Time
Before 1990, the statistics covered onlythe rental in the main season.
From 1990 the statistics covered a split year: Beginning of October - end of September.
From 1998 the annual statistics covered a calendar year.

Quarterly statistics are available from the 4th quarter of1994.

For the key figures the statistics are comparable over time.
